Visiting Kiev (Kyiv)
December 11th, 2007Kyiv is the city where the new and the old create excellent possibilities for historical and aesthetic exploration. Nevertheless, before you become a visitor to this incredible city, take some time to figure out at least two points: accommodation and transport.
Let us discuss choosing a place to stay. Start by considering what you can afford and your tastes, you may either choose to stay in a Kiev hotel, or rent an apartment. Count the stars on Kiev hotels to estimate the quality of the service and accommodation and the price you are willing to pay for it.
The Ukrainian capital boasts of several high-class hotels. There are virtually tens and tens of less posh Kiev accommodation facilities. A five star hotel is going to be approximately $400-850 per 24 hrs, 4 stars will cost $150-$500, 3 star hotels will cost you about $70-300, 2 stars will be from $50 to 120 and 1 star hotels charge around 25-100 per night.
There exist also a couple of hostels in Kiev for students and young people. In an ordinary hostel you will have unpretentious but clean accommodation facilities and several sofas or beds in one and the same room.
If you are looking for an opportunity to save some buck, you might want to rent an apartment. Instead of a small hotel room for about $90-150 you can get a luxury flat in the downtown. Single room cheep flats may be rent for less than $50. Some owners that allow you to rent this kind of Kyiv apartments might as well offer to meet you when you arrive. It would be much safer to book the apartment at least a couple of days in advance.
If you are tight with funds or want to experience something spicey, you could rent a sleeping berth in a train. There is a train depot not far from the train station
